C10: The Battle of Rivers End (Part 1)

To all our loyal soldiers,

Wow, I am honestly so surprised how quickly this battle went to shit.

So it started out with a really good idea. Burn down the Roots, keep the Vine slurping cult occupied while we pushed into the Circuits. BUT NO! They had a whole army stationed in the Reeds just waiting to push up and cut River’s End in half.

OH JOY! ANOTHER MESS TO DEAL WITH!

They were able to advance all the way to the southern and eastern side of the water treatment plant which I am going to love explaining to the Council of 20.

I can’t even bare to explain how the map looks to you now, just look at it here.

Now, there is a bit of good news. We were able to hold the Underworld Collective back a bit. They started with an incendiary cannon strike that messed us up for a bit but we were able to regroup and push back the advancing androids. That has also allowed us to keep a corridor open to Atlas which means we can either retreat or resupply.

I’m saying “we” like I was actually there but in reality, I was sipping a Mai Tai while doming the rebels from the safety of my 28 storey Atlas penthouse. It’s not as much fun when you can’t see the brains flying up close.

While this isn’t a desired outcome, I don’t think it’s unsalvagable.

Here’s a couple of options I have come up with: Retreat from Rivers End, Push up from Atlas, or Sue for “peace”.

Retreating from Rivers End means we evacuate the soldiers while they still have an exit. This would mean that we can have more troops to protect Atlas from any sort of invasion but this would mean essentially letting Rivers End go. That might be worth the risk as this is the safest option in the long term but we would be sacrificing a lot in exchange.

Pushing up from Atlas would essentially be a suicide run, attempting to cut down both the Underworld Collective and Cultivation Society lines. This would push them to the wall of the Dome if done right but it would be a monumental task, requiring us to use our reserve troops from Atlas to have any chance of pushing upwards. It’s crazy, reckless, nearly impossible, and if we fuck it up, we’re putting Atlas in danger but this might just turn the tide of the battle.

Suing for “peace” is a rather crafty way of giving us more time. We partition the other two factions for peace, lead them on with promises and whatever keeps them distracted. While peace talks are going on, we move supplies to the troops closest to the water treatment plant. By supplies, I of course mean thousands of mining charges, enough to blow the plant sky high. Then no one gets what they want, Dionea dies, Atiley has to face her thirsty population and say she failed, and we’ll figure something out. However, this plan hinges on whether or not Atiley will sit across the table from me when she’d much rather put my head through said table. A bit risky, but it would be really funny if we can pull this off.

As usual, this choice is yours. However, if we fail, the Council of 20 will be wanting my head so NO PRESSURE!
