C11: The Battle of Rivers End (Part 2)
To all our loyal soldiers,
The retreat from Rivers End couldn’t have gone more poorly if we actively tried.
When starting the evacuation, we told soldiers to move south in groups starting from those closest to Atlas. We were essentially sacrificing the north-most soldiers who had little chance of retreating. This allowed us to recover a lot of our troops but the trouble started when the Underworld Collective started pushing from the north.
The rebels had taken the entire back of the dome while the cultists encircled the water treatment plan. I knew this was absolutely unwinnable. Then, the Council of 20 ordered a fire bombardment from Atlas’ cannons to cover the retreating soldiers. The only problem is, the Underworld Collective isn’t using normal soldiers that could be blinded by the smoke, they’re using androids. I told them this and you know what their response was?
“DO IT OR WE’LL DOCK YOUR PAY!”
When we bombarded our retreating soldiers, we lost a good 20% of our forces to our own fire. The androids were still able to see and gun down our troops, killing thousands.
We tried to retreat but the southern forces close to the Atlas/Rivers End border broke through our lines and encircled the evacuating troops. It was an absolute massacre. Overall, nearly 70% of our soldiers in Rivers End were killed or captured. The Cultivation Society and the Underworld Collective took complete control of the territory.
You know who’s to blame for all of this? The Council of 20. They have knocked back every suggestion I have given them throughout my entire career. Want to know which ones they knocked back this time?
We should focus our air support on the Reeds so the cultists can’t push upwards. REJECTED!
We should be taking the Cultivation Society more seriously and dam the river leading to the Reeds. USES TOO MUCH RESOURCES!
We should pack the water treatment plant with soldiers so we can at the very least ensure Dionea dies of thirst. APPARENTLY THE CULTISTS WON’T GET THAT FAR ANYWAY!
We should plant EMP mines along the border between the Circuits and Rivers End. THEY CANCELLED THE R&D FOR EMP MINES 20 DAYS AGO!
I am so utterly sick of these bureaucrats that haven’t stepped foot on ground that wasn’t plastered in gold controlling our war efforts. The Governed is a limping mule at this point, unable to accept it’s glory days were half a decade ago.
This is it, they’re calling me into a meeting tonight and I know what that means. They are going to be sorry that they gave me clearance to be armed at all times.
I’ll update you soon.
