C09: The Storm Approaches

To those with our cause in their hearts,

As you have chosen, we have signed the pact with the Cultivation Society and they will help us take Rivers End.

However, before we march on the water treatment plant, there were a few things we needed to set up first. We placed a mix of regular soldiers and androids along the Smoke’s border with Atlas. This allows us to fortify the factory while not relying too heavily on the androids in case the Governed decides to target them specifically.

As our team in the Communications Server have figured out, the code that we found in the androids seems to have activated something called the “Oasis Protocol” and opened hatch number 87 in the factory. However, we looked all throughout the factory and only found 86 hatches. This is concerning as the bots may become unpredictable but we need them for the coming fight. I have asked the tech team to install some kind of fail safe so we’ll see what they come up with.

In addition to the bots, we have also installed anti-air cannons in the Circuits. This will allow us to combat any backup troops that the Governed airdrop to their front lines. This will help us isolate the Rivers End from any additional supplies. However, we weren’t able to build the defences all along the border so there may be some blind spots. We will have to deal with that as it comes though.

Unfortunately, we have some more bad news to deliver, the Governed has managed to collapse the tunnels connecting the Smoke to the Circuits, meaning that we will have to get supplies to the factory over land. This will be a costly and slow method of transport but it’s our only option as we are unable to dig through the rubble.

From there, we need to shore up our approach to the coming battle. We have a couple of options on this front, we can either: attack through Atlas and push up to Rivers End, attack Rivers End and push down to Atlas, or focus all our effort on Rivers End without pushing further.

Attacking Atlas and pushing up to Rivers End would delay the acquisition of our main goal but taking Atlas first would be a massive morale killer for the Governed, making Rivers End easier to take. However, taking Atlas would be a monstrous feat, they will fight tooth and nail for it, meaning that we would potentially be wasting resources for very little gain. However, we could completely encircle Rivers End on all borders if we took Atlas.

Attacking Rivers End then pushing down to Atlas would mean that we would capture the primary target first, regroup, then finish off Atlas. This would be easier than attacking Atlas first but it may give the Governed time to regroup and resupply from Atlas as well. However, that might be a risk worth taking if we can turn on the water supply before advancing.

Focusing on Rivers End and not pushing further means that we won’t wipe the Governed off of the map but we can more easily defend any form of counter attack the Governed launches at us. While it would be a major victory to completely collapse the Governed by taking Atlas, it would be much safer to just hold Rivers End. It will also mean fewer casualties on both sides which will be a major boon for us in terms of both our public image as a reasonable alternative to the Governed and saving troops for any future conflict. However, this will almost ensure a counter attack from the Council of 20 in the not-too-distant future.

As always, the choice is in your hands. Make us proud!
