C03: A Vital Choice at a Crossroads
Greetings from the sea of many.
Our invasion of Overwatch was a complete success!
We caught them on their back foot, and their security was laughably easy to push through. Our forces reached their lobby in the first two hours. From there, we took each floor, meeting increasingly heavier resistance as we ascended. However, once we reached the broadcast station, they had fortified the entire floor.
Our forces fought through two days of androids and automated turrets before they took the broadcasting room, securing Overwatch.
We are still sorting through all the documents and data. Once that is done, we will have access to all the blackmail that Overwatch has hoarded. This information will be invaluable when the time comes to attack the other factions.
In addition to this, our seeds had awakened in the Reeds just as the Governed pulled their forces out of them. The villagers who accepted Dionea’s love made easy work of the skeleton crew that they left behind. We now control the Reeds as well thanks to the diligent work of the faithful.
From here we have a few options: we can either capture Rivers End or Dusk.
Rivers End is the water treatment plant of Atlaunder, it’s water supplies all of our greenhouses. Every time someone has attacked the facility, they have had their water supply shut off until they retreated. The employees there have also claimed independence and have managed to fight off any invading force since. Cutting off our water supply would cripple our greenhouses and potentially put Dionea’s life at risk. However, that would only happen if they knew we were coming. Now that we control Overwatch, we might have the resources to take them completely by surprise. It’s still a massive risk, from what we know of the Lady of Vines, she can only survive for four days without water.
It’s a tight timeline but it would be an important area to control.
Dusk is a barren land of scrap and junk. However, we have previous reports of the soil in the area being salvageable. If we were able to clear it out, we could turn it into a luscious garden filled with Dionea’s grace. There is a small, subterranean community living there that will no doubt try and defend their territory. They will give us a fight, but it’s nothing we can’t overcome. However, they can not be allowed to live, and so, they will either have to be cleansed or assimilated.
This is the safer option, but it will take time for us to reap the territory’s benefits.
We have two options when dealing with these regions: assimilation or occupation.
Assimilation involves infecting the population with Dionea's seeds, ensuring that all can hear the Lady of Vines. This means that we don't lose as many troops and we face little to no resistance when capturing the territory. However, there are some drawbacks. This could be more easily discovered (which would lead to the assimilation process being nullified or severely weakened), take a little bit more time while we wait for everyone to accept Dionea’s love, and it also leaves the area open for other factions to claim if they decide to invade.
Occupation is just as it sounds, sending in our army to claim the area by force. This would ensure that we can fight against any resistance from other factions. While this is resource intensive, the show of force might just overwhelm the region enough for us to claim it in a few days. However, this could also turn into a multi-week siege that could put a massive dent in our resources and man-power.
The fruits of your labour are not lost on us, and you will be rewarded for your victory in due course.
We know your choices will guide us to true assimilation.
